High stakes gambling takes on a sinister new meaning in this third chapter of the terrifying HOSTEL series. While attending a bachelor party in Las Vegas, four friends are enticed by two sexy escorts to join them at a private party way off the Strip. Once there, they are horrified to find themselves the subjects of a perverse game of torture, where members of the Elite Hunting Club are hosting the most sadistic show in town.

Following in the footsteps of composer Nathan Barr's exceptional scores for the first two installments of the HOSTEL series, Frederik Wiedmann delivers his own powerful symphonic chapter to the horror saga.

Treat for Basil Poledouris and Hans Zimmer fans! World premiere 2-CD release of both composer's powerful soundtracks for Randal Kleiser filming of Jack London's outdoor boy & wolf tale WHITE FANG, presented by Walt Disney Pictures, starring Ethan Hawke, Klaus Maria Brandauer, James Remar.

CD1 offers rich, evocative score by Poledouris, given primary credit in finished film. Stately main theme in major key anchors, while numerous motifs, smaller ideas create multi-layered musical tapestry of turn-of-the-19th-century gold prospecting in Alaska. In contrast are sequences both frightening, tender. Several cues never before heard add depth to impressive score. But there's much more!

CD2 offers second score by Hans Zimmer, much of it also featured in film, with completely different thematic material spotlighting composer's then new meld of symphony with synthesizer. Early-ish Zimmer score offers perhaps his largest-scale scoring to that date. Powerful themes, aggressive action, rhythmic adventure, tingling suspense, gentle warmth... it's all here! And there's still more: also find exciting "Bear Attack" co-written by Shirley Walker & Zimmer as well as additional cues by Fiachra Trench. Finally, numerous saloon source cues composed by Poledouris round out lengthy 2-CD package. Newly-mixed and presented in dynamic stereo from both 24-track analog masters (format of choice for Poledouris), 32-track digital masters (format of choice for Zimmer), all vaulted in mint condition at Disney. Beautiful booklet design by Joe Sikoryak includes complete cue assembly & composer details for both scores plus informative notes from Jeff Bond. Two exciting scores from the same movie, available at last! Basil Poledouris conducts his score, recorded in Burbank, Shirley Walker conducts Hans Zimmer's score, recorded at Air-Edel Studios in London.

Jennifer 8 Soundtrack [1992-2012]

In the early 90's, the serial killer genre had taken off to new heights of success thanks to the Academy Award winning thrillers, The Silence of the Lambs and Basic Instinct. The celluloid world would see even more and inventive ones such as Se7en and Copycat years later, there was one that unfortunately wasn't successful but still a thoughtful and enjoyable one in the genre, which is Jennifer 8.  The film stars Andy Garcia, as John Berlin a former L.A. detective who after a bitter divorce and stress in his old job relocates to Eureka, a small northern California town thanks to his friend and partner (Lance Henriksen) and as soon as he arrives, a murder has taken place. With a reputation of being a troublemaker, Berlin soon finds himself embroiled in a cold missing persons case resembling a recent murder that's already taken place which leads him to meet Helena (Uma Thurman), a blind cellist who's roommate has gone missing and maybe the victim Berlin's investigating. Soon he falls for Helena hard and risks everything to protect her as well as find the killer while batting scrutny from his co-workers and one tough interrogator St.Anne (John Malkovich). The film was written and directed by Bruce Robinson, who made the recent Johnny Depp comedy, The Rum Diary.

Music written by Chris Young except "Humming Song (From Madame Butterfly)" (Giacomo Puccini) and "Stille Nacht, Heilige Nacht" (F. Gruber/J. Mohr).

Christopher Young's score for this detective thriller is based on slow, contemplative piano figures augmented with strings in the wistful, ominous, and threatening tones consistent with the movie's theme. Bits of "Madame Butterfly" and "Silent Night" fill out the score.

Cloclo Soundtrack [2012]

As kitschy and overstuffed as some of the legendary French singer’s numerous hits, My Way (Cloclo) is a long-winded, by-the-numbers portrait of Claude “Cloclo” Francois, whose worldwide claim to fame is the eponymous Frank Sinatra ballad he originally composed and performed under the title “Comme d’habitude.” Indeed, it’s business as usual in this 2 ½ hour biopic from Florent-Emilio Siri, which offers up a mix of fortune, glory and outdated haircuts with very little originality or dramatic gravitas. A lively turn from Dardenne Bros. regular Jeremie Renier may help the film finds its way to a few offshore markets outside its huge Francophone fan base.

One of the biggest pop stars in French history, Francois took the nation by storm in the '60s and '70s with a string of chart toppers, ranging from rock ‘n’ roll covers of the Everly Brothers and Frankie Valli to disco hits like “Alexandrie Alexandra” and “Je vais a Rio.” Charismatic and monomaniacal, and clearly unabashed about the tackier sides of showbiz, Francois stayed in the spotlight for as long as he could, changing up styles to compete with rival artists and even orchestrating his own on-stage collapse to remain in the headlines.

Prometheus Soundtrack [2012]

Prometheus is Ridley Scott‘s return to the world he created in 1979′s Alien featuring a team of explorers discovering a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.

Ridley Scott, director of “Alien” and “Blade Runner,” returns to the genre he helped define. With PROMETHEUS, he creates a groundbreaking mythology, in which a team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a thrilling journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
sci-fi horror film Prometheus, which stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba and Charlize Theron. The film opens in the US on June 8th, 2012.

German-born musician Marc Streitenfeld, jointed with Harry Gresgson-Williams, has composed the score for Prometheus. Streitenfeld has worked with Scott for the past six years or so starting with A Good Year. Can anybody remember the score for that film? Everybody is pretty much hoping Prometheus is Ridley Scott’s glorious return to sci-fi. After all, Alien and Blade Runner are modern classics which helped re-boot the genre to some extent. Jerry Goldsmith’s original Alien score was pretty wonderful with its soft drones and ethereal string arrangements so Streitenfeld has got some pretty darn big boots to fill.

d3f8b ec771ec7d1 Once Upon A Time Mark Isham (OST) (2012) [FLAC]
Intrada announces the release of Mark Isham's score to the hit ABC TV series Once Upon a Time that premiered last fall. Isham needed to come up with a score that spanned the entire spectrum of emotions -- not only breathing life into quieter moments, but also being romantic, sweeping, and epic. The result was a score for the series that is both beautiful and heartfelt and has become integral to the fabric of the show.

For this release representing music from various episodes, Mark Isham has compiled over an hour of music carefully produced to provide listeners with a musical journey that captures the essence of the show. This release also features five different collectible covers, but the contents of all discs remain the same.

The show focuses on Emma Swan, whose life has been anything but a fairytale. A 28-year-old bail bondsperson, she’s been taking care of herself since she was abandoned as a baby. But when Henry —the son she gave up 10 years ago—finds her, everything changes. Henry is desperate for his mom’s help and thinks that Emma is actually the long, lost daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming. Even stranger, Henry believes that Storybrooke, the sleepy New England town he calls home, is really part of a curse cast by the Evil Queen, freezing fairytale characters in the modern world with no memory of their former selves. Of course the seen-it-all Emma doesn’t believe a word, but when she gets to Storybrooke, she can’t help sensing that everything’s not quite what it seems...

The film is directed by David Cronenberg, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Don DeLillo, author of the novel on which the film is based.

Robert Pattinson will tackle the role of Eric Packer, a 28-year-old billionaire asset manager who bets – and bets big – against the yen on a tumultuous day in the stock market.

New York City, not-too-distant-future: Eric Packer, a 28 year-old finance golden boy dreaming of living in a civilization ahead of this one, watches a dark shadow cast over the firmament of the Wall Street galaxy, of which he is the uncontested king. As he is chauffeured across midtown Manhattan to get a haircut at his father’s old barber, his anxious eyes are glued to the yuan’s exchange rate: it is mounting against all expectations, destroying Eric’s bet against it. Eric Packer is losing his empire with every tick of the clock. Meanwhile, an eruption of wild activity unfolds in the city’s streets. Petrified as the threats of the real world infringe upon his cloud of virtual convictions, his paranoia intensifies during the course of his 24-hour cross-town odyssey. Packer starts to piece together clues that lead him to a most terrifying secret: his imminent assassination.

Joining Robert Pattinson in the cast ensemble are Juliette Binoche, Sarah Gadon, Paul Giamatti, Samantha Morton, Kevin Durand, Jay Baruchel.

Cosmopolis premieres in Portugal on May 31st, Russia on June 14th, 2012. U.S. release date is still to be decided.
The soundtrack for Cosmopolis reunites composer Howard Shore and the band METRIC for another cinematic collaboration. While writing the score for David Cronenberg’s film adaptation of the Don DeLillo novel Cosmopolis, Shore conceived of a particular live sound to achieve his vision and invited METRIC to perform the score and co-write three songs. The music was recorded in November 2011 at the band’s own Giant Studios in Toronto, produced by Howard Shore and METRIC guitarist Jimmy Shaw, and mixed by John O’Mahony at Liberty Studios in Toronto and Electric Lady Studios in NYC. The result is an atmospheric, urban soundscape of analog synths and layered guitars featuring the hypnotic vocals of METRIC lead singer Emily Haines. The Cosmopolis soundtrack also features “Mecca” by Somali Singer/Rapper K’NAAN with lyrics by the artist and Don DeLillo.

Desvairada

To contact us Click HERE
Garoto (Anibal Augusto Sardinha, 1915-55) was a multi-talented musician playing various fretted instruments: banjo, cavaquinho, bandolim, violão, violão tenor and hawaiian guitar contributing on numerous recordings with his always elegant fretwork both as accompaniment and as a soloist. He also composed several pieces for the various fretted instuments he mastered, among his compositions, however, a single one stands out as an example of his deep roots in the choro tradition - the valse-choro "Desvairada" (- meaning 'wild' in English). "Desvairada" is a three part valse-choro played in 6/8 and has the form: ABBACCA, the piece containing several examples of appegios in double timing, very intricate to master. Garoto recorded the piece in 1950 for Odeon on a 78 rpm playing the bandolim, a video at YouTube has the original
audio as soundtrack to still photography -

"Desvairada" has since become a touchstone for choro instrumentists to master, especially among guitarists allthough the piece originally was designated for the bandolim according to the recording by Garoto himself (- he never recorded "Desvairada" playing the violão, only the inserted audio above by Garoto is available). You may also listen to the original recording by Garoto in streaming audio at Instituto Moreira Sales or from the compilation cd shown below

As said, "Desvairada" has become a touchstone for choro guitarists, one of the first guitarists to cut his teeth on the composition transcribed for guitar was Raphael Rabello, who recorded the piece in a duo set-up together with Radamés Gnatalli on the shown cd below

Raphael Rabello also recorded "Desvairada" in a duet with Dino Sete Cordas and he always had the tune as part of his standard book in live-performance, here's a magnificent example of Raphael Rabello playing "Desvairada" in an informal and private setting

In 1991 Paulo Bellinati recorded a cd devoted to the guitar works of Garoto, among the 24 pieces transcribed for guitar by Bellinati also was a recording of "Desvairada", probably the best known interpretation of the piece copied by numerous guitarists ever since with the guidance of Bellinati's published score. At YouTube you can watch several videos featuring various guitarists struggling to master the piece, one of my own favorite videos has Yamandú Costa playing the piece in a near to impossible version, here documented from a live-tv spot

To end this small entry on a famous tune, I insert a video from a live-performance featuring Alessandro Penezzi (violão), Daniel Brito (bandolim) and Rogério Caetano (violão sete cordas) playing "Desvairada" in a trio setting, from a tribute concert to Raphael Rabello - enjoy!

New cd featuring the Danish-Brasilian trio Tresafinado is a magnificent example of the vitality of contemporary choro.

The Danish-Brasilian trio Tresafinado from Copenhagen is "(...) a rendezvous of three musicians: two classical musicians, flautist Pia Kaufmanas and guitarist Torsten Borbye Nielsen, and the Brazilian drummer and percussionist, Afonso Corrêa, who brings with him the wealth of Brazilian music with its vivacious, sensual rhythms" according to the official website of the trio

The trio presents its musical repertoire this way: "In a repertoire based on the Spanish and South-american music Tresafinado explores new possibilities, performing classical music together with other styles. The strong Spanish spirit of de Falla and the all-embracing musical language of Villa-Lobos is presented next to a Brazilian choro, a Venezuelian waltz or just a simple folksong." The trio was established 1998 and has performed with this repertoire that also was presented at Tresafinado's first cd titled 'Tresafinado - 3 Musicians'; audio examples available at the website, click here. - Tresafinado has also co-operated with larger ensembles and their second cd reflects this through recordings of religious music with participation of vocalists from Brønderslev Kirkes Pigekor; audio examples available here.
.In 2008 Tresafinado was invited to participate in the ”IV Festival Nacional de Choro” in Brazil, which inspired guitarist Torsten Borbye Nielsen to compose several choros that were enthusiastically received by the Brasilian audience during the trio's performance and praised by the well known musician and producer, Mauricio Carrilho The result of this was that Tresafinado was invited to Rio in March 2010 to record some of this material in the studio of Acari records. The recordings from this session are now available on the just released cd, Lúdico, shown below

The title of the cd, Lùdico, which also is the title of one of the featured compositions, means 'to play' or 'play together'. Trio Tresafinado is accompanied by three well known Brasilian musicians on several of the 16 tracks on the cd: Mauricio Carrilho, Pedro Aragão, Luciana Rabello, and there is a guest performance by Nailor Proveta on a couple of tracks as well. The cd is produced by Mauricio Carrilho in co-operation with the trio. The main part of the repertoire consists of choros or choro related compositions, nine of them composed by guitarist Torsten Borbye Nielsen and arranged together with Mauricio Carrilho: Lembrancas de São Pedro (TangoBrasileiro),"Helene"(Choro Cancão),"Graciosa"(Waltz),"Pipocou!"(Polka), "Maria" (Waltz), "Valsa pro Proveta" (Waltz),"Lùdico" (Choro), "Ricardo no choro" (Choro) and "Festa"(Choro). The cd has two compositions by Mauricio Carrilho: "Maxixe pro Afonso" (Maxixe) and "Koala" (a Toada-Lundu), a classic by Radamés Gnattali,"Remexendo" (Choro), arranged by Carrilho and finally outside the choro repertoire two tangos from Astor Piazolla's suite "Histoire du Tango: Bordel 1900 & Nightclub 1960" arranged by Afonso Corréa, and "Viento y Madera" by the Costa Rican composer Fidel Gamboa arranged by Tresafinado. The Scandinavian imprint is further expressed in a reading of "A Fiddler in Rio", a composition by the famous Danish jazz fiddler Svend Asmussen written in 1954 as a tribute to Jacob do Bandolim and here performed by Tresafinado accompanied by Pedro Aragão (bandolim), Mauricio Carrilho (violão 7 cordas) and Luciana Rabello (cavaquinho).- The performance of the music is flawless and generates an intimate atmosphere, everything is well arranged and executed to the benefit of the beauty of the compositions - a very successfull meeting of kindred spirits and great musicians across The Atlantic. As mentioned, the cd is recorded in Acari's studio in Rio in March 2010 and it was released January this year on Tresafinado's own label (Tresafinado Records, T 1001) in co-operation with Gateway Music.
